Hopcount and E2E Delay: IPv6 Versus IPv4
نویسندگان
چکیده
IPv6 provides an expanded address space to satisfy the future Internet requirements. In this paper we compare and analyze onemonth measurements of the end-to-end IPv6 delay and hopcount between 26 testboxes of the RIPE TTM project with the corresponding parts in IPv4 network. By comparing IPv6 and IPv4 paths, we focus on problems that are only present in the IPv6 paths. In those poorly performing IPv6 paths, we run traceroute with the path maximum transmission unit (MTU) discovery to identify the problems and their causes.

Impact of IPv4-IPv6 Coexistence in Cloud Virtualization Environment
Since January 2011, IPv4 address space has exhausted and IPv6 is taking up the place as successor. Coexistence of IPv4 and IPv6 bears problem of incompatibility, as IPv6 and IPv4 headers are different from each other, thus, cannot interoperate with each other directly. The IPv6 transitioning techniques are still not mature, causing hindrance in the deployment of IPv6 and development of next gen...
متن کاملTowards an incremental deployment of ERN protocols: a proposal for an E2E-ERN hybrid protocol
We propose an architecture based on a hybrid E2E-ERN approach to allow incremental deployment of ERN (Explicit Rate Notification) protocols in heterogeneous networks. The proposed IP-ERN architecture combines E2E (End-to-End) and ERN protocols and uses the minimum between both congestion windows to perform. Without introducing complex operation, the resulting E2E-ERN protocol provides inter and...
متن کاملPeak Performance of TCP and UDP in IPv4 and IPv6 over Ethernet Networks
IPv4 addresses have been depleted in February 2011, when the IANA allocated the remaining last five /8s IPv4 address blocks to the RIRs. IPv6 has been developed by the IETF as a solution to the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses. In this paper, we present some models to evaluate the performance of IPv4 and IPv6 in Ethernet networks, the most widely-installed local area network technology. Our models ...
متن کاملAnalysis of IPv6 Transition Technologies
Currently IPv6 is extremely popular with companies, organizations and Internet service providers (ISP) due to the limitations of IPv4. In order to prevent an abrupt change from IPv4 to IPv6, three mechanisms will be used to provide a smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6 with minimum effect on the network. These mechanisms are Dual-Stack, Tunnel and Translation. This research will shed the light ...
متن کاملIPv6 delay and loss performance evolution
Although packet delay and loss are two important parameters of the Internet performance, to the best of our knowledge, the evolution of large-scale IPv6 delay and loss performance has previously not been studied. In this paper, we analyze more than 600 end-to-end IPv6 paths between about 26 testboxes of RIPE Network Coordination Centre over two years, and compare the delay and loss performance ...
